2011 Invitation Recap

Happy New Year everyone! This year definitely has been an exciting one for all of my brides, including myself!! Id like to share with you some of the highlights that I experienced with all of them, as well as some of my very own wedding details. Congrats to all of my 2011 couples as well as the future 2012 bride and grooms to be!!

Indian Bridal Shower Invitation

This was my very first Indian invitation. I was easily inspired by the colors of teal and pink when creating this bridal shower invitation. I've always been fascinated with Indian culture. The colors, the fashion, the over the top jewlery...its all so fabulous! So when Najila called and asked me to design a bridal shower invitation for her friend Kuljit, I couldn't wait to get started.

Burlap Beach Wedding Invitation

My friend Jen and I had some things in common when it came to our weddings. We both were getting married in the summer, our bridesmaids were wearing the same color dress, and we both were getting married in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Jen had the same idea when it came to her invitations. She didn't want her invitations to scream BEACH. I love playing with textures and had an idea to use burlap somewhere in their design. The combination of the burlap texture worked really well with her fresh colors of purple and sky blue. I think it definitely gives a sense of beach without being too over the top. It wasn't until the devastating Hurricane Irene interrupted Jen's plans just days before her wedding. But nasty hurricane Irene didn't stop them from getting married. In just a day, Jen was able to gather up vendors and they had a beautiful ceremony and reception, away from the shoreline.

I was very honored when my friends Kerry and Alex wanted me to design their entire wedding invitation suite. Alex is in the printing business so he definitely wanted something custom when it came to the production part of the invitation. Using the colors pink and black, I was able to create a clean traditional invitation and a completely custom die cut pocketfold that held all of her accessories. We finished off the invitation by silkscreening a pink pattern over the rich touche paper. Kerry and Alex also had their wedding cake mimic the design of the invitation which was created by the talented Anne Heap from Pink Cake Box. The design was also featured in Pink Cake Box's top 10 wedding cakes of 2011!

Modern Purple and Green Save the Date

I have to admit, I spent A LOT of 2011 focusing on my very own wedding invitations. And not just the invitations, but all the other details such as favors, table cards, coordinating signs, etc. I kinda went crazy. But this is what I love to do and had to blow it out of the water. The first thing I focused on was the Save the Date. Because we were having somewhat of a destination wedding at the beach, I wanted to design a booklet that included not only the save the date, but a map, accommodations page, and magnet. I finished off the the project by adding a chartreuse green envelope liner and wrap around labels. Little detailed surprises like that really make a project pop and seem more complete. Nole from Oh So Beautiful Paper was kind enough to feature my save the dates in her blog. She is the cream of the crop of Stationery bloggers and I was very honored to be featured in her blog. I have to say our invitations really were something special, and definitely over the top. The experience of looking through the actual invitation book is far better than viewing the pictures above. I've always been obsessed with making small books, and since I did a booklet for my save the date, why not make a book for the wedding invitation? The entire process took about 6 months from design to production. Not to mention the weeks and weeks of hand stitching each one! This book was full of information about our wedding. We didn't want to leave anything out! We even included our reception menu! I also included a map that I drew for my guests to locate all the wedding events and hot spots on the island. And to complete the invitation, we hand picked some of our favorite songs and made a CD for our guests to listen to on their way down to our wedding.
